Go Van Gogh

Go Van Gogh is not your Bubbie and Zadies Klezmer band. This seven-piece dance band borrows liberally from Klezmer, Western Swing, Tango, and Ska, while throwing tradition out the window. From the Klezmer and Tango world we have Violin and Accordion. The saxophone does double duties, with the Soprano riffing like Klezmer clarinetist Dave Tarras, but the Alto bringing in the modal melodicism of John Coltrane. Adding a touch of Bob Willis’s western swing the Lap Steel plays off the bass, drums, and rhythm guitar who propulsively bring in the Skatalitesque dance party beat. A variation on the modern sound, less techno than contemporaries like Balkan Beat Box and Watcha Clan, and not as traditional as Slavic Soul Party or Boban Markovic.
