DJ Dave Gillis

A veteran DJ for over 20 years, Dave Gillis has established his reputation as a crowd-rocking favorite, always in high demand throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Dave is currently the resident DJ for the Starlight Room in San Francisco atop the historic Sir Francis Drake Hotel.

With a diverse music collection, Dave is never hesitant to break old school funk tracks on audiences. “My style is really simple. If you’re into music and just about anything that gets you into your groove, I’m definitely your DJ”, says Dave.

Having lived on both East and West coasts, Dave’s exposure to music can be heard whenever he plays a party. Dave’s energy and passion for dance music is evident whenever he’s on the decks, always feeding off the energy exuded by his audience. From mild to wild, Dave always has the party in the mix!

Since the age of 10, Dave has pursed his passion as a DJ, always playing with radio stations or playing records for friends and family. When Dave wasn’t playing parties while attending boarding school in Connecticut, he was sneaking off to New York City to see legendary DJs like Frankie Knuckles play at underground clubs, loft parties or going to local pirate radio stations. This is where Dave realized his true calling of playing music. Honing his skills at clubs in St. Louis and Los Angeles, Dave moved to San Jose in 1996 after graduating from college in St. Louis. He immediately took up residency at San Jose’s top dance club, The Agenda Lounge.

After leading a successful career in graphic design and project management for several Fortune 500 companies including Sony, KPMG and Mitsubishi, Dave redirected his talents to his passion of music and entertainment. In 1997, Dave got his big break when the house DJ at Harry Denton’s Starlight Room needed a sub. Since answering that call, Dave has performed 4 to 6 nights per week for over 18 years! Since his arrival, The Starlight Room has consistently been rated as the number one nightclub in San Francisco.

Dave’s infectious personality and flawless mixing style makes him easy to spot. His passion for music and entertainment keep him busy at weddings, corporate events, private functions and mixing original songs. Dave rocks the house every week at the Starlight Room and is a great addition to any party or event.
