Te Pura O Te Rahura’a is an award winning Polynesian dance troupe, under the direction of Marilou Ubaldo Lafon, based in South San Francisco, California. They participate in numerous group and solo competitions throughout the Bay Area and Hawaii, most recently being awarded the overall professional group in the 2010 Tahiti Fete competition held in San Jose, California, the largest Tahitian dance competition outside of Tahiti.
The troupe performs in various community events and festivals year round, most notably for the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco Aloha Festival. Their goal is to share and encourage the love and appreciation of the Polynesian culture and to continue to enrich their experiences and deepen their knowledge by learning from well known and accomplished hula and Tahitian directors, dancers and artists. While staying faithful to the traditional dances, their original choreography fuses traditional and contemporary elements that produces a style all their own.
