SAPO

SAPO is a legendary Latin Rock band, grown out of the 1960's and 1970's Chicano music scene in the San Francisco Bay Area. Formed in the 1970's by brothers Richard & Joe Bean, SAPO originally included the noted conguero Raul Rekow, who would join the Santana band a couple of years later. The rest of the band was rounded out on bass by the now famous comedian Jose Simon, pianist Kincad Miller, Oscar Estrella on guitar, Bobby Gaviola on trap drums, and trombonist Wayne Wallace (Bill Summers, Pete Escovedo, Tito Puente, and John Santos & The Machete Ensemble).

SAPO disbanded in the late ’70s, but in the 90′s with the emergence of a new Chicano/Latino generation searching for its roots, SAPO was re-discovered and as a result, reformed in 1995. Since then, SAPO has appeared on the national television show, had has toured extensively throughout the United States.
