Born and raised in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Gabriel Navia started his professional music career as a charango player, touring and recording with the Andean music band Sukay at the age of 11. Sukay, led by his father Eddy Navia—a master and legend of the charango in his own right—allowed Gabriel to perform on various stages throughout South America, North America, Europe and Asia.
He studied music and guitar with various teachers from Bolivia, Cuba and the United States. After attending the Instituto Eduardo Laredo in Cochabamba, Bolivia and the School of the Arts of San Francisco, California, he went on to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Jazz School of Berkley CA, and got awarded Outstanding Musician at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In 2007 he received a scholarship to do a music postgraduate with flamenco great Manuel Granados at the Conservatori Del Liceu de Barcelona.
From jazz to Andean, flamenco, Latin, pop rock and classical music, he has had the opportunity to perform and record with many artists, including Eddy Navia, Fito Reinoso, Sandy Perez, Jeff Massanari, Georges Lamman, Joe Craven, the San Francisco Symphony, Matt Brubeck, Savia Andina, Martin Arias, Willy Claure, Nomade, Grillo Villegas, Manuel Monroy Chazarreta, Fernando DeSanjinez and Enrique Coria.
