DJ heyLove* grew up in the Bay Area surrounded by different cultures, ethnicities, & art. Influenced by this diversity she developed a love for variety, which is reflected in her taste for music.
Attracted to different rhythms and how they make the mind, body, and soul feel, heyLove* is naturally drawn to artists from the past and present like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Prince, Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu, Pharrell Williams, J Dilla, Kanye West, Drake, AtJazz, Masters at Work, Omar, & the Weeknd.
You'll hear soul, jazz, R&B, downtempo, broken beat, house, bossa nova, afro beat & hip-hop, pop/hits, and classics in her collection. "There should be no genre lines in music," heyLove* explains. Her mixes reflect a "music head" who appreciates the finer melodies in life.
DJ heyLove* has shared the stage with artists such as the Grammy award winning Robert Glasper Experiment, Esperanza Spalding, the Funky Meters, Emily King, DaM-FunK, & Mark Farina. Her music has created good vibes at places like Monarch, California Academy of Sciences, W Hotel, Haus of Hipstamatic, City View at the Metreon, and The Getty's Mansion. She specializes in sound design for events such as art gallery openings, fashion shows, wine tastings, and corporate/non-profit events. Her client list includes Human Rights Watch, Rain Forest Action Network, the Global Fund for Women, Mother Jones and the Sierra Club. You can catch DJ heyLove* at any of her residencies at the Press Club SF, Roka Akor SF, Ozumo Oakland, Amelie Wine Bar, and the New Parish.
DJ heyLove* is also apart of a duo with upright bassist David Arend, called the "B" Sessions, fusing an eclectic sound with a live instrument & 2 turntables. Arend & heyLove* drop many genres of music and can create a chill lounge vibe as well as move a dance floor all night. The "B" Sessions has played for events such as the San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Festival on the Brooklyn Circus stage and the Castro Street Fair.
