Berel Alexander is a singer, songwriter and bandleader with a flair for a stylish new take on West Coast Soul. Born in Northern California and raised on his father’s vintage vinyl collection and homemade mix tapes, he has been singing since he learned to talk and writing songs since soon after.
His sonically refreshing sound starts with his warm, passionate and agile vocals, couple with his strong skills on acoustic guitar. Berel’s ensemble features hypnotic keys and electric cello atop a hearty rhythm of bass and drums. Their feel good show is highlighted by thoughtful lyrics which remind us that hope still has a place in this crazy world.
While hard to categorize, Berel’s music is easy to love; for dancing, for listening, and for singing along. From the wilds of the Redwoods, to the streets of Oakland, to your town, Berel adeptly blends the rhythms of our times while honoring the classic pop, R & B and rock songs that have provided the soundtrack of our lives. It all adds up to a highly entertaining and uplifting experience, be it his recordings, his solo shows, or his full band.
Berel’s ensemble has been featured for multiple performances during the Sundance Film Festivals of ’12, ’13, and ’14, and have also shared the bill with timeless performers like Matisyahu and G. Love & Special Sauce. Berel is constantly touring and recording. California performance sites have included The Mint and The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, The New Parish in Oakland, and The W Hotel and Yoshi’s Lounge in San Francisco. His band’s latest original EP, “All Over It” was released on Jan. 20th 2014, and the official music video for the title track released March 24th, 2014.
