Aztec Drummers and Dancers

As our Aztec and Mayan ancestors who came before us, Tezkatlipoka continues in the wearing of traditional regalia (Tonalkayotl) and playing musical instruments as a way to honor the sacred dances and songs. Audiences will be awed by large headdresses of colorful plumage, seed pod rattle anklets and copal tree resin incense that add to the vibrant dances and powerful drumming style of Aztec percussion. Specialty dances, available by request in advance, include the “Fire Dance,” where dancers express respect for fire and the elements. Other specialty dances include Aguila Blanca, the "White Eagle" dance which illustrates the battle between the white eagle and the jaguar, which symbolize the duality between day and night. Tezkatlipoka also shares and explains the meaning of each dance, and upon request, can incorporate key themes and messages into the presentation talking points with advance notice.
